Washington DC - Part 1

I just realized after looking at my posts that I didn't write about Washington DC!! I can't believe it!

Easter Sunday Tate and I spent the day in Washington DC seeing the sights. Since it was the Holiday we were not able to get into some of the places that Tate wanted to see. And of course we were not really sure what all we would find.

We started our morning with a ride on the Metro Rail. That was fun. We have ridden on the South Shore from South Bend to Chicago a few times- they do not compare....the rail is much smoother!

We were in DC at a great time as all the trees were blooming, not just the Cherry Trees.

Our first stop was the Capital Building. There is a beautiful fountain out front, and the building itself it huge! All along the way there were beautiful flowers every where! They do a beautiful job landscaping the grounds around the Capital!

From the Capital Building we made our way to the Washington Monument. The Mall is long! I am not sure how long it is but man! There is a carousel in on the way. I wish that I had taken a ride on it. Maybe next time!

We did stop in the Smithsonian Visitor's Center, but did not go through any of the museum, again another trip will have to be made.






After a while we did make it down the mall to the Washington Monument. We wanted to go up into it but we could not find the ticket stand. The monument it amazing, they all are. I think what amazed me most was that the pictures that I have seen just do not do justice to what we were seeing.




I thought that we should be closer to the White House than we were! From the Washington Monument we did make our way to the White House. They were preparing for the Easter Egg Roll the following day. One day I do hope that we will get to tour the White House, my Dad has been there and met then President George W. Bush.

From the White House we made our way to the  WWII Memorial. I found this a solemn place, or at least that is what I felt it to be. The fountains here made it a tranquil place. This monument lays between the Washington Memorial and the Lincoln Monument. I will let the pictures talk for me on this one!

There are 50 pillars around this fountain, one for each state and they have a wreath hanging on both sides.

Happy Birthday Rebekah Noele!

My little girl Rebekah Noele just celebrated her 8th Birthday on May 8th. She will only ever turn 8 on the 8th once! So to celebrate we had our friends and family over to celebrate with a cook out and cake. We were going to have a fire and smores too, but it was just too windy! This year we let her invite some friends from school, it was nice that she could have some friends over to celebrate.

Since I have been staying home I have been making the birthday cakes for our celebrations. Rebekah wanted a Princess themed cake. So, I decided that it would be cool to have a cake that kind or looked like a wedding style cake. It turned out pretty good! We used a tiara for the topper.

Wedding!

What a wonderful day for a wedding in Maryland!

At 10 a.m. this morning our friend Jason married his friend Gail. What a happy moment to be a part of! We were very blessed to be a part of their special day.










The reception was just as wonderful. There was all different kinds of foods....cheese, quiche, muffins, fruit, melon wrapped in procheutto, and of course CAKE! The cake was beautiful....berries galore!
