Wedding!

What a wonderful day for a wedding in Maryland!
At 10 a.m. this morning our friend Jason married his friend Gail. What a happy moment to be a part of! We were very blessed to be a part of their special day.

The reception was just as wonderful. There was all different kinds of foods....cheese, quiche, muffins, fruit, melon wrapped in procheutto, and of course CAKE! The cake was beautiful....berries galore!

Thank you Jason and Gail for inviting us to be a part of your day!

Good Friday Travels Part 2

Our stop in Gettysburg was very neat! I was amazed at all the monuments, rocks and rock walls that are still there after all these years! There was so much to see, that we didn't get to see it all by any means. I guess that means that we will just have to go back next time we are this direction!

Getting to Gettysburg from where we had lunch was an interesting trip. We went up and over mountains! They were beautiful and scary to drive over all at the same time! The homes seemed to be crooked because of the mountains that they were built on. This was such a site for me! We saw quite a few houses that were very old and looked like they were made from rocks alone. These are such neat things for me. We went through a lot of small towns. I forgot that my phone had a camera until we were close to arriving in Gettysburg. So I missed a lot of beautiful camera shots on the way there.

Once we got to Gettysburg, we drove the Auto Tour. We could not find the channel to listen to the story, of course if we had listened to it we most likely would still be there! We just followed the signs and got out here and there to take pictures and walk around. Tate really knows a lot! I know that he is a History buff and teacher, but man! I know that he was in  "Heaven" just telling me about the different things. I took a lot of pictures of the different signs and monuments. This picture is of the Eternal Light Peace Memorial. On the front of the memorial is engraved "PEACE ETERNAL IN A NATION UNITED". On the sides of the flame these are engraved on the East " WITH FIRMNESS IN THE RIGHT AS GOD GIVES US TO SEE THE RIGHT" - Lincoln; and on the West "AN ENDURING LIGHT TO GUIDE US ON UNITY AND FELLOWSHIP." Around the monument were different kinds of canons- Rifle and Napoleon.

The amount of rocks on the battle fields were just amazing! I guess now we would call them boulders. One of the formations that we stopped at was "Big Round Top." These were amazing! Tate and I walked up the hill to them through underbrush and mud! Tate tells me that these were a great position for protection for the North in battle, and I can see why! You could hide behind them.

What was also interesting to me was all the rock walls that were still in place from the battle that were built for protection. Here is a sign that we had parked near when we walked up to the monuments at "Little Round Top." The sign says, "THIS WALL WAS BUILT FOR DEFENSE JULY 3RD P.M. 1863." The wall runs between the trees on the left side of the picture. These walls were everywhere!

From the top of "Little Round Top" was just amazing you could see every thing! The picture here is from the top looking down on to the field....it is just covered with large rocks. The terrain that these men fought on was just terrible. They fought over mountains, fields, and forests on horse back and on foot.

It is getting late, so I will have to write more about this part of our trip later!

Good Friday Travels Part 1

We are on the road today on our way to DC. We stopped half way last night so that we were not driving all day today. Driving through PA is a trip! Lots of hills and mountains to look at. But most of all I am enjoying the signs! "Buckle Up Next Million Miles", this one is my favorite so far! There is also one that I would love for my front yard, but I forgot what it said, maybe we will see it again on the way back through. We drove through the Allegheny Mountains! That was very cool. I wish that I had the camera that took video with me, Virginia and Rebekah would have thought that was very neat!

We have stopped for lunch to decide if we wanted to change our route to go to Gettysburg.....we are going. It takes us a little bit out of the way, but will be worth it to see Tate's eyes glow! The Cherry Blossoms will wait until tomorrow. I think that we will go to Arlington on Sunday. That I am looking forward to. Well, we are done with lunch and it is time to hit the road again.

Hello, again.

I was catching up on some blogs that I follow today and realized it had been a while since I had last written any thing. We have been busy, not with anything special, but just everyday things.

This week has been busy with packing for a little getaway for Tate and I. We are going to the East coast for a wedding. A friend of ours is getting married and we felt that we really needed to be there, so we are going! Tate and I have never been to DC before and are looking forward to it. I am looking forward to the Cherry Blossoms and he is looking forward to all the history stuff (I am too actually, but I am not going to admit it to him!).

For the last month I have bee video taping and taking pictures of cars going through our bus stop. I have been lucky enough to get a few license plates, but I really don't know if it has done any good reporting them. Today we had a car go around the school bus while the RED LIGHTS were flashing. Yes, I said around the bus! I have begun to wonder if the laws that are on the books even matter to our law enforcement. I just don't think that people really care anymore....just in too big of a hurry to get to point B so that they can get their day started. Well, my day starts with putting my daughters on the bus, and I would like to know that other people care that this is happening, not just in my front yard, but in others also. This last week marked 3 years since Virginia was hit by the car crossing for the bus, so this week is always hard. But, I am thankful that she is still with us! I should just delight in that fact.

Spring is finally here in South Bend, at least for the time being. We are going on day 2 of almost 80 degrees and sunny! Last night Tate and I did my walk together. It was nice to have him there. The girls are happy for the great weather. They have been playing outside everyday after school. Ellyn's favorite thing to do is blow bubbles! I found some great bubble blowers at the Christmas Tree Shop, they are easy to use for a 2 year old.

Happy Spring and Happy Easter to you all!
